"ROYAL OBSESSIONS” A MASTERPIECE COLLECTION
NICOLAS de BARRY, Master Perfumer to Royal families and stars, creator of historical perfumes for Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier in Paris, General Secretary of the Francois Coty Award and author of several books in the art of perfumery is partnering with A.W.LAKE ® in creating the “ROYAL OBSESSIONS”-- a Masterpiece Collection.
Nicolas and his wife Elza are proud owners of Le Chateau de Frileuse – a charming, lovingly restored Louis XIII castle set in 70 acres of private forest land along the Beuvron River in idyllic Loire Valley, France’s famed region of historic castles. Here, Nicolas has masterfully transformed the castle’s old wine cellar into his perfumer atelier. Behind its heavy wooden doors lies a magical world of traditional perfumery, an art form developed and perfected by a long line of illustrious perfumers who saw themselves as both alchemists and artists.
Nicolas is a rare perfumer in today’s highly commercial and mass produced world of perfumery. Modern perfumes, made from synthetic essences are ‘static’ and ‘linear’, designed to produce instantaneous effect, striking the senses all at once and quickly dissipating. Nicolas’ creations, on the other hand, are made from rich and complex natural essences that produce intricate and multilayered scents which appeal to the imagination and cannot be reduced to a formula. Each is a rare masterpiece.
Together with A.W. LAKE®, Nicolas creates a masterpiece collection of scents, spa treatments and sensuous experiences inspired by some of history’s most notable imperial traditions in perfumery and intriguing royal obsessions. Revealing secrets from the bedchambers of ancient Egyptian Queens to the inner sanctums of living royals, the masterpiece collection resurrects the long forgotten art and sensuality of ‘scenting’ oneself.
