A.W. LAKE works with master healers to bring Bhutan’s ancient healing tradition to modern spas.
The Bhutanese believe that in the beginning of time, the art of healing was a prerogative of the gods. It was not until the lord Buddha himself gave specific written teachings on medicine that the art became available to mere mortals. |
||||||
|
For this reason, the Bhutanese system of medicine goes well beyond the physical realm. Health and spirituality are inseparable. And the art of healing is a dimension of the sacred.

From this revered tradition, came KuNyed, a healing technique which focuses on 3 key elements: meditation, energy work, and compassion. Combined with extensive study in medicinal plants, minerals and massage therapies, this powerful healing art was taught in Buddhist monasteries throughout Bhutan alongside the daily practice of prayers, meditations and study of the holy scriptures.
Working with Kinley Tshering, a veteran guide who explores Bhutan’s remote mountain villages to further research the various applications of KuNyed, A.W. LAKE is proud to offer training in KuNyed techniques and massages to interested spas.
Led by master healer Khaling Karma, learning KuNyed involves a daily practice of Tsa Lung or mind training and meditation. Bhutan’s first KuNyed spa will open in Paro in March 2010.
