TANTRIC BUDDHISM:

ACTIVE MEDITATION FOR LONGEVITY

Tselha Namsum is the manifestation of Medicine Buddha for longevity. The respected deity taught his disciples a unique  Tantric Buddhism technique designed to preserve and revitalize the health of the aging. Devotees receive mantras from their teachers and perform daily meditative breathing exercise in the morning and evening to enhance their longevity and to nurture their health.

A practioner also performs vigorous physical exercise called the “Beb Thrikor” or the “Leaping Buddha” posture where, while seated in a lotus position, he would leap back and forth from one meditation cushion to another for as long as he could. Tsa Lung – the art of mental healing is also practiced along with this demanding daily regime.

It is common today to encounter elderly Bhutanese in their 80’s and 90’s walking briskly around a temple or a stupa, carrying their prayer beads and reciting Tselha Namsum’s mantra for longevity, “Om Vajara Guru Padma Siddhi Hung”.
